Appendix B
Guidelines on product family and selection of samples
representative of product family
B.1. General provisions
This Appendix provides
guidelines pertaining to grouping of LED lighting products by product family
and selection of samples representative of product family.
In order to reduce testing
cost and time, product models with the same characteristics shall be grouped
into the same product family. In this case, only one product model or several
product models representative of the entire product family shall undergo type
testing.
B.2. Reference
OD-G-2041 Ed 2.0 - Guide
on Product Families, Family Ranges or Series of Products of IECEE
B.3. Definitions
B.3.1. Product model: Electric and electronic products with the same name,
functionality, technical functions, design, structure, input materials and
ingredients, and manufacturers.

Factors that may affect
product safety in all models in the family are identical.
Depending on product
models, there may be differences in defined families such as dimensions, color,
appearance, optical, electrical, nominal power, nominal current, angel, color
temperature parameters of which the nature does not alter their effect on
safety of a model relative to other models in the same families.
If an applicable product
standard already provides guidelines on determination of product family and
selection of samples representative of product family, applicable standard
shall prevail.
B.4. Product grouping
principles
B.4.1. Safety testing
Comply with Appendix S,
TCVN 7722-1:2017 (IEC 60598-1:2014, AMD1:2017).
Product grouping into the
same product family only applies to lamps of the same model.
Product grouping into
product family is conducted on the basis of construction, functionality, and
part analysis of the products. Lamp models in the same product family must have
the same fundamental design (circuit structures, component layout, electroshock
protection classes, IP protection ratings, connectors and heat-resistant).
Where lamp models in the same product family use different controlgears,
additional tests must be conducted which concern criteria related to
controlgears on models outfitted with different controlgears.
An LED sample or samples
that pose the highest safety risks (samples with the highest capacity) shall be
selected as type testing samples representative of the whole product family.

B.4.2.1. EMI test
Product grouping into
product family for EMI test is conducted in a manner compliant with principles
below:
EMI is usually caused by
LED circuits such as LED driver, DC adaptor, etc. As a result, product grouping
for EMI test primarily relies on assessment of LED circuits.
LED circuits and shell
materials of lamps in the same product families must be identical. Where LED
circuits are capable of filtering electromagnetic interference via the use of
electromagnetic interference filter (EMI Filter) circuits, lamp models in
product families must have identical EMI Filter circuit design and components.
Lamp models with the
highest capacity shall be selected as samples representative of the
corresponding product families.
Where different
controlgears are used in different models in the same families, EMI tests must
be so conducted on multiple lamp models that all controlgears are tested.
B.4.2.2. EMS test
Product grouping shall be
implemented in a manner compliant with principles specified under EMI test. In
addition, lamp models in the same product families must have identical shell
construction and materials.
Lamp models with the
highest capacity shall be selected as samples representative of the
corresponding product families.
