Airspace restrictions for unmanned aircraft

Prime Minister has promulgated the Decision No. 18/2020/QD-TTg dated June 10, 2020, designating prohibited or restricted zones for unmanned aircraft and ultra-light flying equipment.

The Decision prescribes airspace restrictions for unmanned aircraft, including:

- Airspace which is 120m above ground level (excluding flight prohibited airspace).

- Crowded places.

- Border areas:

+ Flying at any altitude within the distance of 25,000 m from the Vietnam – China land border line to Vietnam’s inland areas is restricted.

+ Flying at any altitude within the distance of 10,000 m from the Vietnam – Laos or Vietnam - Cambodia land border line to Vietnam’s inland areas is restricted.

- Areas contiguous to no-fly zones of airports or aerodromes where civil and military aircraft fly.

Specifically, such area covers the prohibited area of an airport or aerodrome and its proximity of: 

+ 3,000 m in width;

+ 5,000 m in length.

Its altitude is less than 120 m above ground level (this is specified in the appendix to the Decision 18/2020).
