Red claw crawfish (also known as crayfish,…) has not appeared in the list of aquatic animals permitted for trades in Vietnam in accordance with the Decree No. 26/2019/ND-CP and is classified as exotic invasive species in accordance with the Circular No. 35/2018/TT-BTNMT dated December 28, 2018.
Trading and consumption of this species will violate laws on biodiversity and aquatic animals.
In order to protect environment and prevent adverse impacts on the agricultural production industry, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requests People’s Committees of provinces and centrally-affiliated cities and other related entities to:
- Carry out inspection and impose strict penalties prescribed by laws for violations;
- Once being spread out to environment, mandatorily take measures to contain, isolate and eliminate crawfish in accordance with regulations in force;
- Carry out propaganda activities to raise people’s awareness of crawfish’s harm to environment and agricultural production industry; prevent the spread of this species to the natural environment.
