More employees on furlough due to their temporarily suspended labor contracts have access to aid

On November 6, 2021, the Prime Minister issues the Decision No. 33/2021/QD-TTg amending the Decision No. 23/2021/QD-TTg regarding the aid package extended to employees and employers in a difficult situation arising from COVID-19.

According to this Decision, the aid package will be granted to employees working under labor contracts who are forced into temporarily suspending their labor contracts or taking unpaid leave when they fall into the following situations:

- They are in treatment for COVID-19; are in medical quarantine; are living in areas under COVID-19 lockdown restrictions; are prevented from reaching their workplace according to the COVID-19 safety instructions of competent state authorities;   

- Their employers are forced into the temporary suspension of all or part of their business activities according to the COVID-19 safety instructions of competent state authorities;

Or their employers’ head offices, branches, representative offices, manufacturing or business premises are located at areas where disease prevention and control measures specified in the Directive No. 16/CT-TTg are introduced;

Or they take Covid-19 safety measures such as getting into inactive/ceased/restricted/conditional/both restricted and conditional business state under the Government's Resolution No. 128/NQ-CP;  

Or production activities and labor are changed for COVID-19 prevention and control purposes.

(Previously, the Decision No. 23/2021/QD-TTg only prescribes that beneficiaries of the aid package are employees working at business establishments whose business is subject to temporary suspension according to COVID-19 safety instructions of competent state authorities).

Decision No. 33/2021/QD-TTg is entering into force as of the signature date.
