From May 25, 2020, Social Insurance numbers to be used interchangeably as health ID numbers

This is the highlight of the Decision No. 2153/QD-BYT regarding creation, use and management of health ID numbers.

The Decision prescribes that Social Insurance numbers will be used as health ID numbers to identify any person receiving health care services.

Each citizen will be granted only one health ID number and, vice versa, each health ID number is granted only one citizen to be used during his/her lifetime.

Health establishments use health ID numbers to link health information of each person to his/her electronic medical records, health profiles and other health information software.

Health ID numbers will have the following basic characteristics: availability, detectability, interconnectivity, mapping and authenticity.
