Lending interest relief for bank loans is considered due to Covid-19

This is the highlight of the Official Dispatch No. 1117/NHNN-TD regarding application of measures to support borrowers due to Covid–19’s impacts.

According to this document, the State Bank requests credit institutions to actively grasp business situation, evaluate the level of loss, damage or impact caused by Covid-19 on borrowers in order to take the following actions:

- Rescheduling debt repayment, granting interest exemption or reduction, temporarily keeping debt groups unchanged till the State Bank promulgates the Circular providing instructions on this issue;

The aforesaid actions are applied to debts affected by Covid-19 and incurring outstanding principal and/or interest due within the period from January 23, 2020 to March 31, 2020.

- Extending new loans to customers in accordance with regulations in force in order to stabilize their business.

Credit institutions may, at their discretion, decide and take responsibility to reschedule debts, grant interest exemption or reduction or temporarily remain debt groups unchanged for borrowers affected by Covid-19 according to instructions given in this document. 

Simultaneously, they can report to the State Bank on results of implementation of this document on March 15, 2020 and March 31, 2020.
