Footballers may be fined up to 20 million dong for offences to referees

This is the highlight of the Decree No. 46/2019/ND-CP prescribing administrative penalties for violations arising in the sports sector.

Specifically, fines worth from 15,000,000 to 20,000,000 dong will be imposed on persons committing the following violations when participating in sports events:

+ Scolding, slandering and insulting dignity and honor (public apologies must be expressed as punishment for these acts);

+ Threatening to insult health and life;

+ Having reactions in breach of moral standards, customs and traditional values of Vietnam.

In addition to the aforesaid, there will be the following fines:

- Fine ranging from 20,000,000 – 25,000,000 dong will be imposed on such acts as intentionally causing injuries for other players, playing violently during both training and competitions, and suspension from participation in any sports competition will be imposed within the period ranging from 3 to 6 months.

(Decree No. 158/2013/ND-CP regulates the fine ranging from 30,000,000 to 40,000,000 dong).

- Fine ranging from 5,000,000 dong to 10,000,000 dong will be imposed on any fraud in name, age, sex and career achievements to be eligible for admission to selected sport teams, schools for the gifted in sports or permission to participate in sports contests.

The Decree No. 46/2019/ND-CP is set to enter into force on August 1, 2019.
