Fines for discharge of wastewater containing hazardous chemicals into sources of water are about to take effect

This is the highlight of the Decree No. 36/2020/ND-CP prescribing administrative fines for violations arising in the water and natural resource industry.

This Decree prescribes that draining not greater than 5 m3/full day of wastewater containing toxic chemicals or radioactive substances into sources of water will be fined from 60 million dong to 90 million dong.

(Current fine is from 20 million dong to 30 million dong).

In addition, the violating entity is obliged to take remedial actions to mitigate pollution and depletion of water sources in case of such pollution or depletion that occurs.

Notes: The aforesaid fines are only fines imposed on individuals (including business households) while fines imposed on entities will be two times greater than those applied to individuals. 

Decree No. 36/2020/ND-CP is entering into force on May 10, 2020.
